A European trader was surprised to find the price of antimony trioxide dropped by USD300/t after he comes back from a three-week holiday. “Before I left, the price of 99.5%min antimony trioxide was USD5,700-5,800/t in warehouse Rotterdam, and now it is slightly below USD5,500/t,” said the source and disclosed that he lost a business of two containers earlier in the weak because he was not aware the dropping price.

The source holds that antimony trioxide market would keep quiet in July and August because of the summer holidays. However, due to the fact that Chinese had reduced production for Olympic Games this year, he expect price to stabilize in the range of USD5,300-5,500/t in warehouse Rotterdam.

Another trader confirmed the slightly weakened price of 99.5%min antimony trioxide at around USD5,400-5,450/t in warehouse Rotterdam, and USD50-100/t more expensive for Twinkling Star brand material. “Price is slowly dropping by USD50/t every one or two weeks in the last six weeks,” the source said and holds that price will continue to go down by another USD100-200/t before the summer ends.

He holds that the Chinese suppliers will try to keep price stable by stop more smelters in the near future. “They always do when the price drops, and the reason they gave in the past was flood or environmental control. This year, they halt production because dynamite control for Olympic Games.” He believes the antimony trioxide price will not fall below USD5,000/t FOB China this summer.

　　我国锑资源得天独厚，是世界锑工业大国，锑的储量、产量和出口量均居世界首位。锑作为一种战略金属，国家将其列为保护性开采和冶炼的特定矿种。目前，全球70%以上的锑产自中国，从某种意义上来说，中国完全可以左右国际锑市场。但是，自上世纪八个年后期以来，我国的锑产量在多数情况下都超过消费需求，从而导致价格低迷，特别是上世纪九十年中后期，随着广西大厂矿田100#锡锌锑铅多金属复合矿体的开发，脆硫铅锑矿冶炼技术的提高，尤其是在锑冶炼上，除铅技术的突破，给锑冶金带来了一场技术革命，冶炼成本较之传统的硫化锑冶炼有了大幅度的下降，同时随着大规模的开采、冶炼、加工、出口，造成了锑资源的大量消耗，从而使中国锑行业的可持续发展面临着严峻的挑战。2001年广西南丹大厂矿田的“7.17”特大透水事故，国家对广西南丹的矿区进行了全面的整顿，从而使锑市场全面回升。因此，合理地开发与利用锑资源，将资源优势转化为经济优势，进而实现中国锑工业的可持续发展，是当前面临的首要问题。

　　中国锑行业现状

　　1　锑资源现状

　　锑在地壳中的丰度很低(仅万分之一)，但在数千年前人类就已开始利用锑，直到16世纪初，德国僧人万伦廷(Basil Valentine)才著文详细地介绍了锑的用途、性质及提取方法。由于锑性脆、缺乏延展性，因此长期在工业上未广泛应用，进入二个世纪后，随着锑在印刷工业和军火工业的应用，人们把锑看成战略物资，尤其是锑系阻燃剂的开发应用，大大促进了锑行业的发展。

　　根据美国地质调查局2006年最新统计资料显示，世界锑金属储量180万t，基础储量390万t，其中中国储量79万I，基础储量240万t。

　　我国锑矿资源经勘查探明储量的矿区有119个，分布在18个省(区)，累计探明储量427.04万t。截止2000年底保有储量234.28万t，其中广西、湖南、云南、贵州、甘肃五省(区)的储量合计195.75万t，占全国锑总保有储量的83.55%。广西占全国保有储量的32.49%，湖南占全国保有储量的21.82%。

　　我国锑资源主要由二类矿床构成，一是单一的硫化锑矿(辉锑矿)，如我国湖南锡矿山矿田，广西南丹茶山锑矿等。二是与其它金属共生的复合矿，如广西大厂矿田100#、105#矿体的锡锌锑铅多金属复合矿，经选矿后得到的脆硫铅锑矿(Pb₄FeSb₆S₁₄或4PbS.FeS.3Sb₂S₃)，该矿从开采到选冶成本低于辉锑矿，随着科技的进步，优势已十分明显。同时，由于我国单一锑矿资源开采消耗过快，储量在逐年减少，复杂锑矿则相对增加，多金属共存的复合锑矿逐渐取代单一锑矿已成为必然的趋势。

　　2　锑冶炼加工现状

　　目前，世界生产原生锑的国家主要是中国，年产量占世界原生锑产量的70%以上，在上世纪九个年代后期，中国锑品产量占全球产量的80%以上。除我国外，玻利维亚、南非。俄罗斯等国也生产一定量的原生锑，亚洲国家中泰国也少量生产。美国和亚洲的日本、韩国、欧洲的比利时是高纯氧化锑等后续深加工产品的重要生产国，主要以精锑为原料，生产高附加值的锑深加工产品。

　　目前，中国锑生产企业有近300家，其中冶炼加工企业100多家，主要集中在广西、湖南、贵州、云南等省，广西锑资源主要以大厂矿田的脆硫铅锑矿为主，同时还有部分硫化锑矿，如南丹茶山锑矿、隆林锑矿等。其它省份主要以硫化锑矿为主，如湖南锑资源主要以冷水江锡矿山矿田的硫化锑矿为主，同时还有渣滓溪锑矿、沅陵沃溪锑矿等。全国目前精锑(1#、2#)冶炼能力约18万t，氧化锑冶炼加工能力约13万t。表1为我国近7年的锑品产量(包括精锑、氧化锑及其它锑制品，全部以含锑金属量计)。

A European trader sold two containers low bismuth antimony ingot to a consumer with good relation at below USD6,400/t in warehouse Rotterdam, but he told Asian Metal that he would offer at above USD6,400/t to other consumers. According to him, Chinese offers for 99.65%min low bismuth antimony ingot is still around USD6,300/t CIF Rotterdam. "I tried to bid at USD6,250/t, but failed."

As summer is already arrived in Europe, and many manufacturers are on holidays, the antimony market is quiet and demand is slow. The source hopes the price would drop USD100-200/t before the end of August.

Another trader informed Asian Metal that price of 99.65%min standard grade two antimony ingot is at around USD6,200/t CIF Rotterdam, and the price had not changed since the beginning of June. However, the current market is quiet when people leave for summer holiday.

He thinks price is likely to stay where it is at the moment because the Chinese suppliers are not going to reduce the price due to the fact that there is not much supply of antimony concentrate at the moment. “If the control of explosive continues, antimony price would not fall.”

Reluctant to accepting higher prices, European antimony consumers are not active in the market, and traders reported to Asian metal that the consumers are waiting for the price to fall.

A European trader disclosed that antimony market was stable in the passed week with little material changing hands. According to him, the 99.65%min standard grade two antimony ingot is being offered at USD6,000/t, and material with low bismuth antimony ingot is at USD6,200/t. He also revealed the Chinese suppliers are offering USD5,800-5,950/t CIF Rotterdam for March shipment, but consumers are reluctant accepting the prices.

Although he had not concluded any deal of antimony metal in the passed week, the source is still optimistic about the antimony market and thinks consumers would have to come to the market to buy at the current price because there is little material in warehouse Rotterdam.

Buyers watch the antimony market

The past week saw a significant price increase in antimony ingot market, leaving buyers inactive in purchasing. However, as many smelters have not resumed production, suppliers intend to hold current high offers, market sources reported to Asian Metal.

A Hunan-based smelter, with an output of around 200tpm, resumed production early last week. However, an official from the smelter told Asian Metal that most small-scale smelters in Lengshuijiang, Hunan have not restarted.

"We quoted RMB38,500/t (USD5,385/t) VAT excluded but few buyers show interest in purchasing," said the source. According to the source, many consumers have made inquiries to test the market. However, the smelter only sold a small batch at around RMB38,000/t (USD5,315/t) VAT excluded last week.

A consumer based in Yiyang, Hunan confirmed that consumers are not rushing into the market in view of the price hike. "It's normal that the price rises when so many smelters halt. However, the price will gradually move down with production returning to normal," said the source.
