In recent, the industry research institution has issued "the Global and Chinese FPC Industry Report in 2009." Flexible circuit board (FPC) industry was in the bud in 2002 but it developed rapidly in 2003 and 2004.In 2005, it entered the competitive bargaining stage.
The FPC industry had a downturn in 2006 and 2007, but improved in 2008. Even the economic crisis did not stop the recovery of FPC industry. On the one hand, the price cut of FPC has stimulated the demand; on the other hand, the requirement for thin, short and highly reliable products has also made a space for FPC. What’s more, survived from the competitive price cut, FPC factories have all faced a tremendous pressure. Thus, they are good at controlling cost and resisting pressure, and the economic crisis will not hit them.
Mobile phone is the main driver of FPC market, particularly the smart phones and high-end phones. Consumer electronics have a nice growth. FPC will be used more frequently in consumer electronics such as notebook computer, PND, digital camera, DV, LCD TVs, plasma TVs, media players and other products as its performance and thin size. Notebook computers and flat-panel TVs take much use of LED backlights, and FPC is the common way to connect LED with main circuits. Even in 2008 and 2009, it also had a good growth. In the future, the FPC is likely to be used in the connection between laptop screen and main board shaft.
Although the growth is weak, FPC still has its place in the hard disk market. The speed of NAND to replace the hard disk will never be too fast. Today is an information explosion era and the hard disk can solve the increasing storage amount. The storage density, reliability, and maturity of the hard disk have an advantage in the next five years. There are only six hard disk factories now and it will decrease, while there are a number of FPC manufacturers. The bargaining room for FPC manufacturers is small and the FPC patterns used in hard disk are very single, which all cause a weak FPC growth in hard disk market.
The FPC in CD-ROM industry is similar to the hard disk industry. There is a steady growth for FPC in the printer market. Cars electronization is also so obvious that where there is ECU, there will be FPC.
