Dead End

We love, yes we do - we lie on top of each other
penetrate both the other and the surrounding darkness

Or, if we think we´re younger
we sneak around outside a house
longing for a glimpse
not having the courage to
press the bell

Or in between we walk in the park
trying to make contact
wanting to be tamed

Or we´re an elderly couple trying to reestablish
or maintain
some sort of contact.

Behind us all - a laughing Skull
-the laughing Skull laughs and waits

And we love
and we hate
we fight for love and glory
cheating and revealing others cheating on us

Our world regularly crumble and fall
we get sacked
fight for careers
talking behind the manager´s back

We lust for our neighbour´s wife
car, swimming pool, title, esteem, well-mannered children
whatever

Still we love
and behind us the laughing Skull
with the diamond eyes
laughs with a sound
of the wind in the dead leaves
from yesteryear

We work and we sweat
some in factories with sharp noises
others in offices with abstract numbers

Some live comfortable lives in Suburbia
with appropriate art on the walls
some live rough in the city
with dirt on the walls and rats in the alley

Some describe it all
with keyboard or camera
clicking away another day

Some cling to the syringe
heroin being the master
some try to save us all
some try to kill us all
some try to make a difference to us all
some try to try

And out in the back
the Skull is giggling
waiting patiently
having a ball
and he´s at the same time invisible
yet the most manifest thing who´s ever been

Some of us loose it and commit a murder
some of us don´t know that we want to live
until we shall die
and some of us are just very tired tonight

Some of us die now
and some later
and all we have is a bit of time

And some paint the time
and some photograph the time
and some go to the movies
and some try to get as much sex as possible
and some live to eat

Either way time will run out
even though some will feel like reborn
from time to time
- it´s just another bit of time

Behind us the Skull is laughing
with the sound of a ticking clock
with the sound of a snake disappearing in the grass
or with the sound of leaves growing
on an already dead branch
