The present invention generally relates to a filter press and more particularly, to a filter cloth hanging apparatus for the filter press.

As shown in FIG. 1, in a prior art filter cloth hanging apparatus for a filter press disclosed in, for example, U.S. Pat. No. 3,366,244, two links 33 each constituted by a pair of support arms 32 are provided at opposite sides of a pair of adjacent filter plates 31, respectively. Namely, each pair of the support arms 32 are pivotally attached, at lower ends thereof, to side faces on each side of the pair of the adjacent filter plates 31, respectively and are pivotally coupled, at upper ends thereof, with each other by a pin 34. A spring 35 is attached to the pin 34. A horizontal rod 36 is suspended, between each pair of the support arms 32, from a pair of the springs 35 so as to extend between the pair of the springs 35. Each of the support arms 32 is formed, at a proper position thereof, with a projection 32a such that a pair of auxiliary horizontal rods 37 are extended between the projections 32a of one pair of the support arms 32 disposed on one side of the adjacent filter plates 31 and the corresponding projections 32a of the other pair of the support arms 32 disposed on the other side of the adjacent filter plats 31, respectively. A filter cloth 38 is attached, at opposite ends thereof, to lower edges of the adjacent filter plates 31. The cloth is hung, at a central portion thereof, on the horizontal rod 36 so as to extend, at its two halfway portions between the central portion and the opposite ends of the filter cloth 38, over the auxiliary horizontal rods 37. A pair of side plates 39 are, respectively, provided at the opposite sides of the filter plates 31. Meanwhile, a pair of lugs 31a are, respectively, provided on opposite side faces of each of the filter plates 31 so as to be slidably placed on the side plates 39 such that the filter plates 31 are slid, via the lugs 31a, on the side plates 39.

Thus, in the known filter cloth hanging apparatus, the filter cloth 38 is attached, at the opposite ends, to the lower edges of the adjacent filter plates 31 and is hung, at the central portion, on the horizontal rod 36 so as to extend, at its two halfway portions between the central portion and the opposite ends of the filter cloth 38, over the auxiliary horizontal rods 37 as described above. Accordingly, when the filter plates 31 are retracted away from each other and the horizontal rod 36 is vibrated by a filter cloth vibrator in order to separate filer residue adhering to the filter cloth 38 the vibrations applied from a head of the filter cloth vibrator to the horizontal rod 36 are damped by the auxiliary horizontal rods 37. Therefore, the vibrations are not transmitted to the filter cloth 38 as they are and a problem arises in that it is impossible to sufficiently vibrate the filter cloth 38 as a whole.

Furthermore, in the prior art filter cloth hanging apparatus, since the filter cloth 38 is strained so as to cover an upper space between the adjacent filter plates 31 when the filter plates 31 are retracted away from each other, a washing nozzle of a filter cloth washing device cannot be angularly provided from above the filter plates 31. Thus, the filter cloth washing device is required to be provided at one side of or downwardly of the filter plates 31, thereby necessitating a larger filter press which is undesirable.

Moreover, in the known filter cloth hanging apparatus, the filter cloth 38 is required to be attached, at the opposite ends, to the lower edge of the adjacent filter plates 31 and hung on the horizontal rod 36 so as to extend over the auxiliary horizontal rods 37. This results in a troublesome and time-consuming filter cloth fitting operation.

What is claimed is:

1. A filter cloth for a leaf of a pressure vessel having a filtrate outlet, said cloth comprising an enclosed retaining sack disposable over the leaf, said retaining sack being flat and of a substantially circular shape, said sack being fabricated from a single unitary one piece blank of a filtering medium, said blank having a pattern of two substantially identical circular portions integrally interconnected along an intermediate portion thereof, said intermediate portion being disposed on a perimeter edge of said sack, said sack including an outlet opening through which the filtrate outlet is extendable so that a filtered product can be extracted, said outlet opening being disposed in said intermediate portion at said edge and extending therethrough, reinforcing means surrounding said outlet opening to provide a seal about the filtrate outlet, said reinforcing means including a unitary section of reinforcing material secured to an outer surface of said intermediate portion of said sack, said unitary section having an aperture extending therethrough, said aperture being in axial alignment with said outlet opening and being smaller than said outlet opening to provide a tight seal about the filtrate outlet, said sack including a vent hole positioned at a perimeter edge thereof in a diametrically opposed relationship with said outlet opening, releasable closure means disposed on said sack for opening said sack to install and remove it from the leaf, said closure means being located on a greater part of a semi-circular perimeter edge of said sack between said outlet opening and said vent hole, and means securely fastening together remaining mating perimeter edges of said circular portions other than said perimeter edges occupied by said outlet opening, said vent hole and said closure means.

2. A filter cloth as in claim 1, and wherein said reinforcing material is a rubberized substance.

3. A filter cloth as in claim 1, and wherein said closure means is a zipper.

4. A filter cloth as in claim 1, and wherein said filter is constructed of silk material.

The invention relates to an apparatus for pressure filtering fluids (liquids or gases) through a continuously or intermittently movable filter cloth.

Band filters are known in which the filter cloth is kept in continuous motion, generally in the form of an endless band. When band filters of this kind are used, the filter cake is usually the required product. In cases where the purified filtrate is required as end product, these known band filters cannot be used because the unfiltered product is not sufficiently firmly sealed off against the filtrate and because the filter cloth undergoes dimensional changes when impregnated with the liquid which is to be filtered. In addition, the filter cloth generally carries air into the filtration chamber where it may have undesirable effects, especially in the case of sensitive products.

It is an object of this invention to develop a pressure filter which is so designed that long contact times can be achieved but no particles of gas will be carried into the filtration chamber and the product which is to be filtered is firmly separated from the filtrate by the filter cloth.

According to the invention, there is provided an apparatus for filtering fluids comprising a magazine chamber from which the filter cloth is transported continuously or intermittently over a supporting sieve to a receiving chamber.

The main advantages achieved with this apparatus according to the invention lie in the fact that as the cloth passes through the filtered product it takes on the temperature of the product, which is advantageously the same as the temperature of the product which is to be filtered, with the result that the dimensional changes in the filter cloth due to temperature differences do not come into effect in the filtration section proper. As the filter cloth becomes soaked with filtered product, the particles of gas caught in the filter cloth are expelled.

According to a particularly advantageous embodiment of the apparatus of the invention, a magazine chamber which is separated from the unfiltered product by a magazine filter cloth contains a rotatably mounted magazine roll from which the filter cloth is unwound and passed through a slot which is sealed off by the magazine cloth and over a curved supporting sieve which forms the covering to a filter chamber and on to a rotatably mounted winding roll in the receiving chamber.

The particular advantages achieved by this arrangement is that the filter cloth on the magazine roll is immersed in the filtered product which is constantly replaced by fresh filtered product automatically flowing into the magazine chamber as it is used up. Since the filtered product in the magazine chamber is very close to the still unfiltered product, the filtered and unfiltered product are both at the same temperature so that in the filtration zone proper of the filter chamber there are no disadvantageous dimensional changes in the filter cloth.

It is advantageous, particularly in the case of filtering volatile liquids, if the magazine chamber and winding chamber are both arranged inside a housing.

According to another feature of the apparatus according to the invention, the magazine cloth overlaps the slot and is firmly pressed into position by a spring mounted sealing lip in order to ensure that no unfiltered product can enter the magazine chamber.

The supporting sieve can withstand high static loads if it is in the form of a perforated metal sheet with the edges free from perforations. In this case, a very efficient seal may be obtained by providing sealing profils on the unperforated edges.

In the case of delicate filter cloths which cannot withstand friction over the belt sections, the profils are arranged to be displaceable according to another feature of the invention, for example they may be in the form of endless belts.

In another advantageous embodiment of the apparatus according to the invention, the magazine roll and winding roll are equipped with brakes and locks in order to ensure that the filter cloth will fit snugly over the supporting sieve and thus provide an effective seal.

This invention relates to a plate filter having a plurality of shiftable filter elements comprising filter plates and frames arranged in an alternating sequence on a filter stand. The plate filter includes a filter element closing device which presses the filter elements together to form a compressed filter plate stack. At two opposite edges of some of the filter elements deflecting rolls are provided which support an endless filter cloth passing in a zigzag fashion between subsequent filter elements. At least some of the deflecting rolls are driven rolls. The plate filter further has a filter cloth driving mechanism which moves the filter cloth through the filter plate stack in the open (separated) state of the latter. At least some of the deflecting rolls (filter cloth support rolls) are, at one side of the filter plate stack, at least at one roll end, provided with a sprocket affixed thereto which meshes with a flexible, form-locking and endless driving means interconnecting several sprockets and being driven by a drive motor.

A plate filter of the above-outlined type including vertically oriented filter plates is disclosed in German Auslegeschrift (application published after examination) No. 2,012,400. It is a disadvantage of the known structure that upon closing the filter plate stack, the driving chain or driving belt length which is normally meshing with the sprockets from below, drops loose therefrom and hangs in a slack manner. In addition, for driving the filter cloth supporting (deflecting) rolls, two intersecting chains have to be positioned side-by-side so that in the closed state of the plate filter, side-by-side arranged, offset, slack chain lengths are present. The respective underlying return flight of the two chains is supported on end rollers on the stationary end plate as well as on the displaceable head plate of the plate filter so that upon closing of the plate filter the two return flights also hang loosely along their entire length.

During the closed state of the filter plate stack, almost during the entire opening process and almost during the entire closing process, neither the respective driving flight nor the respective return flight of the driving chains are guided; rather, there are formed side-by-side situated, freely suspended chain loops. Since particularly after a longer service period the roller chains or side bar chains may also move in a direction transversely to the pivotal plane of the chain links, small jars which cannot be safely avoided during the displacements, are sufficient to cause entanglement of the two loosely hanging chain flights. Such an occurrence may lead to operational disturbances and damages. It is a further disadvantage of the above-outlined known construction that it can be used only in plate filters having vertically oriented filter plates.

U.S. Pat. No. 4,289,622 discloses a filter cloth transporting mechanism in which the roller chain serving as the drive means is guided in such a manner by means of a combination of a sprocket and a deflecting roller in each filter element that the roller chain remains connected--independently from the open or closed state of the filter plate stack--the sprockets and the deflecting rolls even during the opening and closing motion of the filter elements. It is, however, a disadvantage of this structure that the entire driving output for the filter cloth transport has to be channelled through one roller chain, or more often, through two roller chains so that the roller chains have to be of sturdy construction. Further, this arrangement cannot be used in multiple drives for large filter units.

The invention relates to a filter cloth for a disk filter with in particular sector-shaped filter cells having reinforcements.

As is known, in the case of disk filters, it is necessary to remove at the end of a filtering cycle the filter cake which has grown up on the filter cloth during the filtering process. This is generally carried out with compressed air, which is blown into the inner area of the filter cell. The compressed air blast acting on the filter cloth during this blowing in procedure should have a very steep step of the compressed air rise profile, so that the filter cake can be completely detached from the filter cloth. However, excessive bulging of the filter cloth is not desired, because an excessive air quantity must be blown into the cell. This means a high air consumption and consequently an undesired energy consumption. In addition, the blowing time becomes too long, so that it is not possible to operate at high speeds. The overlap time is not sufficient for filling the inner area of the bag with air. Another disadvantage is that large bulges also give rise to high stresses within the filter cloth which reduce the service life thereof.

Another disadvantage of the excessively bulging filter cloth is that the air cannot escape fast enough and consequently the filter cloth passes through the scraper in the inflated state and grazes along the same.

Thus, such a disk filter has two perforated plates or strainers, on to which the filter cloth is fixed by means of clamping strips. The latter can have a radial and/or arcuate and/or star-like and/or plate-shaped configuration. However, the essential point in the case of this disk filter is that in addition to the perforated plates, clamping strips are also required for fixing the filter cloth in order to prevent excessive bulging of the latter. A reequipping of existing filter systems causes problems, because perforated plates and clamping strips must be correspondingly adapted, so that the undesired excessive bulging is prevented.

The problem of the invention is therefore to provide a filter cloth, in connection with which it is possible to prevent excessive bulging in simple manner during the compressed air action for removing the filter cake.

According to the invention this problem is solved in that the reinforcements are directly integrated into the fabric of the filter cloth.

Thus, in the case of the present invention, there is no need for cooperation between clamping strips and perforated plates, in order to obtain the desired reinforcements for the filter cloth. Instead, the reinforcements are directly integrated into the filter cloth, so that when reequipping an existing filter system, it is merely necessary to adapt the filter cloth with its reinforcements to the said system.

According to an advantageous further development of the invention, the reinforcements comprise U-shaped clips or clamps made from metal or plastic or some other rigid material, whose leg or end spacing is adapted to the disk filter segment thickness. The clips can have a flat or a circular profile.

The legs of these clips are, for example, fixed in a seam formed by the joint of two filter bag or pouch halves, or in a hollow seam obtained by sewing a strip-like piece of fabric on to the filter cloth fabric, or in loops provided on the filter cloth fabric. As a result it is possible in simple manner to integrate the clips forming the reinforcements to the filter cloth fabric. It is sufficient if the free ends or legs of the clips are introduced into the seams, hollow seams or straps and this simultaneously leads to a fixing of the disk filter segment thickness.

In addition, the ends of the clip legs can be fixed by straps, which leads to a paticularly reliable connection between the fabric and the clips. It is also possible to fix the ends of the clip legs by a further clip or buckle fitted to the outside of the filter cloth fabric.

The reinforcements can be directed in a radial or an arcuate manner. All that is important is that the reinforcements are guided in such a way that excessive bulging of the filter cloth is prevented during the compressed air action.

The reinforcements can also be firmly incorporated into the fabric, i.e. the reinforcements in the form of flat or circular profiles can be firmly or fixedly sewn into the hollow seams of the fabric.

It is finally also possible for a filter cell to have several reinforcements, which is particularly the case if said cell has a relatively large surface area, so that large bulges are to be feared.

The material for the reinforcements or clips are chosen as a function of the intended use of the disk filter. If the disk filter is to be used for treating particularly aggressive materials, then the reinforcements are appropriately made from top-quality steel or a suitable plastic.

The filter cloth according to the invention can also be used together with a perforated plate or strainer, on whose surface it is placed. This is particularly the case if the disk filter has a relatively large diameter. However, such a perforated plate is not necessary for smaller diameters.

If the perforated plate has a concave configuration, so that the volume to be filled with compressed air is kept very small, then the reinforcements should also be concave corresponding to the perforated plate, so that the filter cloth is adapted to the concave surface of the perforated plate.

The invention makes it possible to obtain a filter cloth for a disk filter, in which the reinforcements are directly integrated into the filter cloth fabric, so that there is no need to provide special measures consisting of the cooperation of the clamping strips and a perforated plate, merely for securing the filter cloth.

An object of this invention is to solve the above-mentioned problems associated with conventional filter cloths and provide a new filter cloth having excellent fine particle collecting performance, washing recovery performance and durability, and another object is to provide a new filter cloth whose fine particle rejection in filtering liquids is high and having high water permeability and anti-fouling durability, superior dimension stability and long life which can be preferably used for suspended solid separation. A further object of the invention is to provide a belt type solid-liquid separating machine and a filtering machine fitted with this filter cloth having excellent fine particle rejecting performance, washing recovery performance, durability, filter cloth belt transport stability and filtering process stability and having the feature that the conflicting characteristics of fine particle rejection and water permeability are both obtained at a high level.

The objects of the invention are basically achieved by the following constructions:

`A filter cloth comprising at least a base layer and a filtering layer, wherein the ratio T/L of the thickness (T) of the filtering layer to the length (L) of fibers of fiber bundles constituting the filtering layer is 0.02 to 0.7 and the total projected area onto the base layer surface of the fibers is 8 to 350 times the area of the base layer surface.; A filter cloth comprising at least a base layer and a filtering layer mainly composed of fiber bundles of crimped fiber ratio over 5%.`; `A belt type solid-liquid separating machine comprising at least a mechanism having fitted on a plurality of rollers and transporting a belt in which is used a filter cloth mentioned above, a mechanism for supplying unfiltered water onto an inclined part of the belt, a mechanism for sucking supplied unfiltered water from the rear side of the belt, a mechanism for pressurizing and dewatering a cake formed on the belt, a mechanism for peeling off the dewatered cake and a mechanism for washing the belt.`; and `A filtering machine comprising at least a mechanism having a filter cloth mentioned above fitted to a drum or a disc-like structural member and partitioning an inside part and an outside part, a mechanism for supplying unfiltered water to the partitioned outside part or inside part and causing the unfiltered water to pass through the filter cloth, a mechanism for washing the filter cloth from the unfiltered water supply side and/or the other side of the filter cloth, and a mechanism for discharging concentrated water produced by the washing.`

In accordance with the present invention, a duplex filter cloth product of the type concerned and of given dimensions to fit a given size of filter press is fabricated by cutting, from a sheet of conventional filter cloth material, two individual pieces of similar shape but of slightly unequal size in that, while their outer peripheries are normally the same, the diameters of their filtrate feed openings are not. One is enough less in diameter than the other to allow its inturned margin to overlap the inturned margin of the other, such margins being of respective widths that provide for preferably substantially complete interlap in any of the various sizes in which such filter cloths are made.

When these margins are inturned and interlapped in the assembly of the two pieces, circular seams are preferably sewn around opposite edge portions, respectively, of the composite collar so formed. It has been found that the resulting double thickness collar, of the same material of which the duplex filter cloth product is made and firmly secured together by the seaming or other securing means, overcomes the difficulties in fit and operative effectiveness of duplex filter cloths as conventionally made and used.

The duplex filter cloth product of the invention is fabricated by a unique method of forming the collar portion of each of the two pieces, preferably utilizing apparatus which, in itself, is unique. Thus, each piece is cut to the required outer and inner dimensions and then placed in a jig press equipped with interchangeable stationary bed plates. The bed plates have central circular openings differing, respectively, in diameter, there being pairs of such plates in which the central openings are closely but slightly differently dimensioned for the same size of the duplex filter cloth product. The jig press includes a conical plunger serving as a mandrel and having different diameters intermediate its length adapted to cooperate, respectively, with the slightly differently dimensioned center openings of the respective bed plates of a pair to properly turn down the defining margins of the center openings of the two separate flat sheet filter cloth pieces used in the assembling of a particular duplex filter cloth product.

Sewing of the interlapped collar portions of the two filter cloth pieces about respective terminal edge portions of such collar portions is ordinarily accomplished by manual operation of a suitable industrial type of sewing machine, but other securement means may be utilized.

It is one thing to buy a coffee maker. The challenging part is maintaining it. This chore not only involves replacing the old filter with a new one because there are other things that need to be cleaned. Since drip coffee makers are the most basic and frequently purchased, here are some tips on how to keep it in good condition.

The first thing will be to unplug it from the socket. Once this is done, the different parts should be removed separately and cleaned piece by piece. For instance, the glass pot can be soaked in water and soap then left upside down until the all the contents inside have dried.

If some coffee has spilled to other parts of the appliance, you should unscrew it to take a better look so this can be cleaned properly.

Some people think that everything can be cleaned using a piece of dry cloth and some water. Unfortunately, if the deposits are hard to wash out, it is time to try something much stronger. Vinegar can be mixed with water and then you can try doing it again.

If the stain is still there, perhaps pouring in the vinegar until this is full and then turning on the machine can produce better results. The job isn´t done yet since the drip coffee maker should be allowed to cool for a few minutes so that the liquid contents can be drained.

The owner should then check it again and only repeat the process if there are still remnants that are still present.

Since vinegar leaves a certain scent, the best way to remove it is by substituting the contents this time with water. This should be done two or three more times making the coffee drip maker good as new.

The last thing to do will be to put the coffee machine together again. This isn´t so hard and after doing so, you should store this in a safe place like in the kitchen cabinet if it isn't needed.

The best way to avoid repeating the procedure a few times is by cleaning this appliance at least once a month. The process itself takes less than an hour if done properly so that coffee made still tastes the same when a new batch is produced in the morning or at any time during the day.
