What are Engineered Wood Floors?

What are Engineered Wood Floors?

These floors are constructed from several wood plies that are glued together. The centre core is generally a softer wood material and is used to make the tongue and groove. A hardwood finish layer is glued on top of the centre core and another softer wood ply is attached underneath the core. This top ply is also called the finish layer and can be constructed of almost any wood specie.

Wood always wants to expand in a certain direction. In the presence of moisture solid wood planks will always expand across the width of the planks, rather than down the length of the boards. To avoid this problem, manufacturers of engineered planks place each ply in the opposite direction of each other. This is called cross-ply construction. Once the wood layers are glued together the plies will counteract each other which will stop the plank from growing or shrinking with changes in the humidity. Engineered wood floors are designed for the floating installation and can be glued together or some now come with a click system.

The elegant look of a hardwood floor can add warmth and character to any room in a home. The natural characteristics of wood add depth and a visual appearance that many other types of floors try to duplicate. With the demand for hardwood flooring growing manufacturer's are enhancing their ranges to meet this demand, with better quality finishes and superior construction techniques.

Hardwood floors come in a wide variety of wood species, colours and widths. Besides the classic hardwoods (like red oak, white oak, maple and ash) many manufacturers now offer exotic hardwood species from all over the World. Exotic hardwoods give homeowners the chance to better express their own personal decorating tastes with a more unique looking floor. With so many different types of hardwood flooring now available it is sometime hard to choice which is best suited to you.

Write for the end of 2006

At the end of the year 2006, between all the New Year parties and behind all the festival decorations, will you take a moment as I am now -- looking back on the passing year, celebrating your progress, big or small; while reflecting on the unaccomplished goals that you set one year ago.

Now, please join me in pondering upon-"What have you achieved this year?"

It's necessary to give some credits to yourself for the progress you have made throughout the year.

Any of your self-improvements should be recognized, at least by yourself alone. This will be the powerful drive of your persistent efforts in the coming New Year.

However, during the celebration of your achievements, please don't slip into the pitfall of self-complacent.

In a big perspective, we know that all of the world's progress has come from the people who just weren't satisfied to let well enough alone . It's the same with personal progress.

When you find you've succeeded somewhat during 2006, don't stop. If you can't think up a new direction to be more accomplished in 2007, then at least find a way to improve a skill that you already have.

Someone once said: "The difference between ordinary and extraordinary is that little extra".We may all live under the same sky, but we don't all have the same horizon. Expanding your horizons means choosing to see the bigger picture and opportunities for success, and then set a goal of reaching for a better self, and take actions.

Please remember, the enemy of the best is the second best. If you're satisfied with just what's good, you'll never have the best results.

A famous coach of a great sports team said: "It's what you learn after you know it all that really counts".Even if you are quite skilled in something, don't simply stop searching updated knowledge. Otherwise, ignorance will easily find a way to sneak into your mind.

Then what makes the difference between the best and second best? It's the persistent hard work and self-discipline. Many of us just can't be bothered to do our very best work. We look for shortcuts and the easier way of doing things. Our problem is we just want to "get by" with work that is acceptable, but not our very best. That in the end makes the difference between the average and the excellent.

I still remember a story I read about Picasso:
In a restaurant, a woman met Picasso, the world-famous artist. She asked him to write something on her dinner napkin. Picasso scribbled something quickly and said to her: "That will worth $10,000". The woman was shocked and said to him: "But you did that in just 30 seconds!”"Picasso answered: "No, it has taken me 40 years to do that."

That woman's view of celebrity was changed forever. So did mine.

When we look at successful people, we just can't help admiring their glories and even envying their fame and fortune.
But what we usually don't get to see is – year in year out, how they sweat the small stuff and work hard at the details and never become self-centered. That's what makes them successful.

As to these business giants, they also keep looking for new deals even they've already built up numerous empires. They know if they think ultimate success has been achieved, they will soon get left behind.

Success comes no easy, and it's even harder to stay successful. It's true that we can only get out of something from what we put into.

Each of us has great potential. We can, and should, keep learning and improving all our life. Don't just “get by”, we need to get high on life by learning new things and expanding our horizons.

Every time when you stretch yourself, even if it doesn't end up with a great success, you won't stay your original size. You will become a bit bigger and better than before.

So, are you doing your very best in 2006? At your school or at your job? Are you working hard to be the best student or the best employee or the best leader that you can be? Are you doing the best in carrying out your resolutions every year?
